Owned by a returning Ballarat resident, the three-bedroom double-fronted timber home would also provide a place for family and friends travelling from Melbourne.

Behind the restoration, the home features a striking contemporary addition. Clad in shades of grey aluminium, the form responds to neighbours’ privacy and strict height limits. The renovation acknowledges the clients’ interest in modernism, boasting a contemporary palette of materials and a sunken living area.

The renovation includes kitchen and bathrooms. Elevated and slightly offset from the living areas (a subtle shift from the complete open plan arrangement), the kitchen comprises stainless steel and stone with generous storage and accents of green. A double-height void and canteen-style windows allow meals to be served outdoors.
